I wanted to write about my ABS CBN audition since last June but was not able to do so for reasons beyond my control. Finally, now is the time – before it goes off air.

As far as I can remember, as early as my Elementary days, I have always loved to sing. So much so that I auditioned to represent my section during one of our school’s (St. Mary’s Academy Pasay City) intramurals. But, as fate would have it, I landed on the declamation contest instead, much to my disappointment. Well, I didn’t win but my classmate who got in the singing competition won. Buti na lang.

And because of that passion for singing, I was able to convince my parents to enrol me to a 12-session voice lesson at the Center for Pop Music in Cubao. I guess music is really my calling because after that, I worked with the Yamaha School of Music as a School Administrator and met friends who would eventually become my bandmates. We had gigs here and there and got some provincial tours too.

Fast forward. During one of my lowest and trying days, where I got broke and all that, I picked up my phone and dialled GMA 7’s hotline for K! The P1M Videoke Challenge, hoping they’d call me for a chance to win some awfully needed cash. And yes they did! And I won the coveted first prize. ( July 2001)

I was also voted as Queen of the Day earning  an additional P5k

Can history repeat itself? I wondered. Last May, a friend egged me on to audition as a ‘See-nger’ in ABS CBN’s local version of ‘I Can See Your Voice’. Well, I still needed money haha, so I did. And off I go to what I thought would be an easy breezy encounter.

Cutting the story short, I joined the suuper loong queue of people wanting to be on that show at around 10:00 am. Had lunch while on line and wanting to have dinner at 8:00pm BUT unfortunately, you guessed it right – I was still lining up. Well the good part is, I was able to get through the 2nd level of the audition, out of 4! But because of my hunger and exhaustion, for my 3rd song, I picked up an easy piece. Pagoda na po – as in. I wanted to  go home and just finish up. This is one of those times when not being  chosen is definitely okay. Yes, I did not make it to the next level! Thank goodness. I would have wanted to meet Luis Manzano and the Singvestigators but I guess some other time.

So having gone through that torment, as I call it, my all-out admiration  goes to all those who’ve made it there as contestants! Bravo!

I am sure the show will return pretty soon. But for now, my advise to those who are still wanting to join singing contests or shows like ICSYV, magbaon po ng maraming tiyaga at pasensya. Qualities I might have lacked on that day.

Saying goodbye (for now) to one of the wackiest game shows in town. We will surely miss you!

Mommshies, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
